The natural propensity of human beings to congregate makes group therapy a powerful therapeutic tool for treating substance abuse. One that is as helpful as individual therapy, and sometimes more successful. One reason for this efficacy is that groups intrinsically have many rewarding benefits—such as reducing isolation and enabling members to witness the recovery of others—and these qualities draw clients into a culture of recovery. Another reason groups work so well is that they are suitable especially for treating problems that commonly accompany substance abuse, such as depression, isolation, and shame. These factors coupled with a rich evidence-based curriculum sets our clients to learn, grow and ultimately succeed.
CHAZ clients are required to attend group therapy four times a week while in the first 2 phases of the program. These group therapy sessions are 2 hours long and are run by trained group facilitators. These required group therapy classes focus on: anger & aggression, relapse prevention, substance abuse disorder education, family patterns, feelings, understanding of the 12 steps, coping strategies, and mindfulness. Our clients also have the ability to participate in
Grief & Trauma group therapy weekly. This group is a 2 hour per week, 10 week long, optional course curriculum facilitated by a licensed therapist.
There are under 20 client participants in each group therapy session and all groups are divided by sex -male and female. It is up to the client to choose with what sex they identify and prefer to do group with.

Assesses and fixes gaps in client care, and determines additional needs or requirements related to a specific client’s disease or disorder
Our case managers meet with their clients once a week to assure they are progressing in their recovery & through the phases of our program, are setting goals & reaching goals, as well as to assure their individual needs are being met. These meetings typically last from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the clients’ needs that week.
SOS has a designated transportation team to ensure safe arrival into our program and traveling while in our program. Our transport drivers pick up new clients at their residences and from other behavioral health treatment centers, hospitals and detox centers. We are currently capable of picking up clients locally and in the surrounding states. Also, our transportation team assists in taking clients to individual appointments, traveling to group events, and going to and from 12 step meetings. Also, all of our structured supportive living homes have staff who are licensed, insured and equipped with company vehicles to meet all of the other transportation needs of our clients (i.e. to the clinic, to group, to the store, meetings, etc.)
Sober Events & Fun Group Outings
Getting sober is not easy, but through taking action and developing a sober network, life can begin to take on new, exciting adventures. At CHAZ, it is very important for us to show our clients how to build a sober network and community & how to have fun while being sober. That is why we plan fun right into our curriculum. Each week our clients take a step back from routine groups, and intensive therapy & they go out to enjoy each other, connect, socialize and have FUN!
Here are examples of some of the fun activities our clients have enjoyed while in our program:
